Happy Friday, everyone!
LSE (The London School of Economics and Political Science) which is located a short 10 minute walk away from Faraday House will be holding a (free) festival for your curious minds from Monday 19 – Saturday 24 February.
The festival which is inspired by a report written by a former LSE Director, William Beveridge, in 1942 will:
“LSE offers a series of public engagement activities to shine a light on the “Five Giants” identified in the Beveridge report, re-cast for the 21st century and for the global context. Originally described as Want, Disease, Ignorance, Squalor and Idleness, today’s giants are framed as the challenges of poverty; health and social care; education and skills; housing and urbanisation; and the future of work.
We will also be considering the interconnectedness of the themes. Cross-cutting questions, such as the issues of rights and expectations of citizens with respect to welfare provision; questions of who decides, who provides and who pays for welfare provision; and sustainability – financial, environmental and social will be addressed, along with the identification of ‘missing Giants’ that a modern day Beveridge would prioritise instead.”
All of the stimulating talks are FREE but most will require registering for a ticket in advance: http://www.lse.ac.uk/Events/LSE-Festival/Ticket-Information
Find the full program here.
One of the first talks I’ll be attending is ‘Identity and the Welfare State: evolving challenges for sustaining social solidarity‘ on Monday, 19th at 6.30pm, so grab a ticket and come join me if you like!
Hope to see you there 🙂
